A woman was allegedly stripped and assaulted at a nightclub in Guwahati’s Khanapara area late Thursday night, with both male and female bouncers accused of involvement in the incident. Videos showing the assault have surfaced on social media, prompting police to register a case and begin an investigation.
The incident reportedly took place at The Locals Caf and Lounge. The video purportedly shows the woman lying on the floor without clothes as two women kick her, while several men are seen standing nearby. Another video appears to show a woman attempting to help the victim up, although a car subsequently blocks the view.
According to preliminary reports, the woman was allegedly pushed to the floor, stripped and assaulted inside the establishment.
She was reportedly taken from the club’s fourth floor towards the parking area, where the alleged assault continued. The precise sequence of events and circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear.
There are also reports of an earlier altercation between the woman and a female bouncer. However, the circumstances surrounding that confrontation have not been independently established and are now part of the police investigation.
The identity of the woman has not been established so far.
When media personnel reached the establishment, the club was reportedly closed and its lights had been switched off. No representative of the management came forward to comment on the allegations and the incident.
Guwahati Police has registered a case in connection with the incident and are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. It was not immediately clear whether anyone associated with the club had been questioned or arrested.
The investigation is expected to establish what happened inside the club before the alleged assault, the sequence of events that followed and the roles, if any, played by the people seen in the videos.
Further details are likely to emerge as police question those involved and examine available evidence, including the videos circulating on social media.
