A Class 12 student in Gwalior has alleged that a man she met through Snapchat raped her at a hotel after threatening her, police said.
According to police, the student became friends with Krishna Khatwani through Snapchat about a year ago. The two gradually began communicating through messages and conversations.
The student told police that on the evening of September 22, Khatwani called her to meet him. She left home at around 5:15 pm, telling her family that she was going to attend coaching classes, but instead went to meet the accused.
The accused took her to a hotel. According to her complaint, when she resisted, he threatened to harm her father and also threatened to circulate objectionable photos and videos of her. He then raped her.
The student returned home frightened after the incident and told her family what had happened. The family initially refrained from approaching the police due to concerns about social stigma. However, they later approached the police and submitted a written complaint on September 24.
Police registered an FIR against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections for rape and other offences.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the hotel and conducting searches at possible locations to trace and arrest the accused.
