An IT company manager in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra died by suicide, allegedly due to harassment by his wife. Before ending his life, Manav Sharma recorded an emotional video while crying and with a noose around his neck. In the video, that has gone viral on social media, Sharma alleged that his wife was having an affair.
The victim’s father has filed a police complaint and no arrest has been made yet. The incident has drawn comparisons to the recent suicide case of Atul Subhash in Bengaluru.
Sharma was found hanging in his home on February 24.
In the video, he was seen crying with a noose around his neck, pleading for authorities to “think about men.” He also warned that if laws do not protect men, “there will be no man left to be accused.”
“Don’t touch my parents after my death,” he said concluding the video.
Sharma, also revealed that he had attempted suicide earlier, showing cut marks on his wrist.
Following the incident, Sharma’s father lodged a complaint at the Sadar police station, blaming his daughter-in-law for his son’s death.
Sharma’s wife denied all the accusations and alleged that her husband had been struggling with alcohol addiction and had self-harmed severel times beore.
“He used to drink excessively and had attempted suicide multiple times. I saved him three times. He also assaulted me after drinking. I had informed my in-laws several times, but they ignored my pleas,” she said.
Regarding the allegations of infidelity, she said, “That was all before our marriage. Nothing happened after I married him.”
Agra top cop said that no arrest has been made in the case yet.
“We received information from the military hospital in Agra that a person named Manav was brought in a deceased state. It was later found that he had ended his life by hanging. No arrests have been made so far," ASP Vinayak Gopal said.
The police official said that the post-mortem of the victim was conducted after several attempts.
“His mobile phone was locked, but his sister knew the password. When the phone was unlocked, a video was recovered. The video revealed that he had a strained relationship with his wife, which led him to end his life," the official said.
The case has drawn comparisons to a recent incident in Bengaluru, where an IT engineer died by suicide over similar circumstances.
