In another disturbing incident involving an iPhone, a 30-year-old dance instructor allegedly jumped into the Yamuna reportedly amid financial stress over his inability to pay the monthly instalments.
The incident took place around 8.30 pm on Friday near Bhola Ghat in Kalindi Kunj, where patrolling personnel were alerted about a man entering the river. Police reached the location and contacted the flood department, following which a rescue team arrived with a boat and pulled the man to safety.
The man, identified as Deepak Kumar, lives in Sanjay Colony in Okhla with his wife and two children. Besides working as a dance teacher, he also earns money through gardening work.
During questioning, Kumar told police that his earnings had fallen in recent months, leaving him struggling to keep up with the instalments on his iPhone. The financial difficulties reportedly caused him significant distress and prompted him to take the extreme step.
Police counselled Kumar and contacted his wife and brother-in-law before allowing him to return home.
Maharashtra iPhone Tragedy
The incident occurred on the same day as a separate tragedy in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where three members of a family died after falling from a hilltop in an incident reportedly linked to a dispute over iPhone EMI payment.
The Maharashtra incident took place at Khavda Hill in the Tisgaon area under the Waluj MIDC police jurisdiction. Police said a 19-year-old boy had allegedly threatened to die by suicide, following which his parents fell from the hill while attempting to save him. All three died in the incident.
