At least eight people were charred to death and 15 others were seriously injured after a goods truck collided with six vehicles on a bridge in Pune on Thursday. The incident happened on Bengaluru-Mumbai National Highway 4 when the brakes of the goods truck reportedly failed, and the driver of the vehicle lost control, officials said.

Following the collision, several vehicles went up in flames, resulting in the deaths of eight people. Officials expressed concerns that the death toll could mount further.

Authorities were quick to react as they pressed fire tenders and a team of firefighters into service to douse the flames and also carry out rescue operations. Police personnel also reached the accident site and dispersed the crowd that gathered there, in order to ensure smooth rescue operations.

Efforts are also underway to clear the debris of the charred vehicles as the entire stretch got choked due to the slow-moving traffic following the accident.
