A minor girl was allegedly gangraped multiple times by three men before they attempted to bury her alive to conceal their crime in Odisha's Jagatpur district, sources told India Today. While two of the accused, both brothers, have been arrested, the third one is on the run.

According to sources, two brothers - Bhagyadhar Das and Panchanan Das - of Banashbara village in Jagatpur and their accomplice identified as Tulu Babu allegedly repeatedly assaulted the girl over an extended period of time.

The prolonged sexual abuse resulted in the girl's pregnancy. After discovering that the girl was five-months pregnant, the three accused tried to bury her alive to cover up the crime. However, the girl was rescued in time.

Following the incident, the survivor was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment, where she is under constant observation of doctors.

Later, the survivor's father lodged a formal complaint against the accused at the nearest police station, on the basis of which a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

While Bhagyadhar Das and Panchanan Das were caught, Tulu Babu managed to flee the village and remains at large as a manhunt to track him down is ongoing.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, the sources added.
