US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir on Friday, urging both Islamabad and New Delhi to take immediate steps to de-escalate rising military tensions, according to a spokesperson from the US Department of State.
Rubio also conveyed Washington’s willingness to facilitate constructive dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbours to prevent further escalation and avoid future conflict.
The outreach came just hours before Pakistan announced a major military strike early Saturday, targeting multiple sites inside India—including a missile storage facility in the northern region. The attack marks a sharp intensification in hostilities between the two countries, now witnessing their most serious confrontation in nearly three decades.
