A young social media influencer, Sana Yousuf, was shot dead at her residence in Pakistan's Islamabad, media reported. Sana, a well-known content creator from Upper Chitral who has over 4 lakh subscribers, was shot at close range by a relative who had come to visit her.

The assailant fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police, who have launched a manhunt, are investigating all possible motives, including that of honour killing, which is rampant across Pakistan.

According to police, the suspect had a conversation with Sana outside her home before opening fire.

"The suspect entered the home, fired multiple shots, and escaped," Pakistani media quoted a police official as saying. Sana sustained two bullets and succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

SPARKS OUTRAGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with several demanding justice for the young social media influencer. Hashtags like #JusticeForSanaYousuf started trending on platforms like Instagram and X.

The daughter of a social activist, Sana's videos mostly focused on daily lifestyle, Chitral culture, awareness videos on women's rights and education, and motivational content for the youth.

The incident brings back memories of Malala Yousafzai, who was shot at by the Taliban in Pakistan for speaking for women's right to education in 2012.

Earlier this year, a man in Pakistan killed his teen daughter over her TikTok activity. The family had recently relocated from the United States to Pakistan. Initially, the man claimed that unknown assailants were responsible for the killing.
