Patna, December 16, 2025: The Bihar government has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with private companies to set up two pump storage power plants with a combined capacity of 2120 MW in Nawada district. The projects, worth ₹13,000 crore, will be completed in six years and will increase renewable energy production and storage capacity in the state.
Largest Renewable Energy Project in Bihar
The projects will be undertaken by Greenko Energies Private Limited and Sun Petrochemicals Private Limited, which will invest ₹7,800 crore and ₹5,200 crore, respectively. The Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) will provide necessary support to the agencies.
Employment Opportunities
The projects are expected to generate employment for approximately 8,000 people during the construction phase. The Bihar government has prepared an action plan to invest ₹50 lakh crore in the next five years, and this MoU is a significant step towards achieving that goal.
Renewable Energy Promotion
The projects are part of the Bihar government's efforts to promote renewable energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The Pump Storage Promotion Policy-2025 was formulated to encourage investment in the sector, and the projects will help the state achieve its renewable energy targets.
Chief Minister's Vision
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav. The Chief Minister's vision for a clean and sustainable energy future is being realized through these projects.
