The nominees for the Oscars 2023 were announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday, 24 January. India has bagged three nominations at the 95th Academy Awards this year.

'Naatu Naatu' from filmmaker SS Rajamouli's RRR has been nominated for Best Original Song, while Shaunak Sen’s film All That Breathes has been nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film. Kartiki Gonsalves' Netflix documentary The Elephant Whisperers has bagged the nomination for Best Documentary Short Film.

RRR stars Ram Charan and NTR Jr in the lead roles. Besides, the film also features Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, and Alison Doody in pivotal roles.

RRR premiered in theatres on 24 March 2022 and soon became a global hit. Besides winning the first Golden Globe for India, it has also bagged two Critics Choice Awards for Best Song and Best Foreign Language Film.

Filmmaker Pan Nalin's Chhello Show (The Last Show), which was India's official entry for the Oscars 2023 and was also shortlisted for the same, missed out on the nomination in the Best International Feature category.

The only three Indian films that have been previously nominated for Best International Feature at the Academy Awards were Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan. However, none of these nominees won.

This year’s announcement was hosted by Allison Williams and Riz Ahmed. The 95th Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on 12 March and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
