The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police after its Post-Result Services Portal came under a series of coordinated cyber attacks during the ongoing re-evaluation and verification process for Class 10 and Class 12 students.
The board said all attack attempts were successfully thwarted through round-the-clock monitoring and cybersecurity measures, adding that no student data was compromised and no breach of its systems occurred.
The latest complaint comes after CBSE’s re-evaluation portal faced repeated cyber threats shortly after it was opened to students seeking verification of marks, photocopies of answer sheets and re-evaluation of their board exam results.
According to CBSE, the portal witnessed an unprecedented surge in traffic, including what officials described as coordinated attempts to disrupt services. The board earlier revealed that the platform received nearly 1.5 million hits within just two minutes and detected more than one lakh unauthorised attempts to access files on the system.
In another major incident, CBSE said it successfully blocked a cyber attack involving approximately 3.8 million malicious data packets aimed at overwhelming the portal’s infrastructure. Despite the attacks, the platform remained operational and continued processing thousands of student requests.
As of June 4, more than 70,000 students had successfully submitted applications through the post-result grievance redressal system, including requests for re-evaluation and verification of marks.
The cyber incidents come amid heightened scrutiny of CBSE’s digital infrastructure following controversy surrounding its On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and re-evaluation process. Earlier this week, parliamentary discussions and media reports highlighted concerns over cybersecurity preparedness in examination-related platforms, while technical experts from IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras were brought in to assist with strengthening digital systems.
CBSE said its security teams continuously monitored the portal and responded immediately to suspicious activity, ensuring that examination records and student information remained protected throughout the attacks.
The board has now sought a formal investigation by Delhi Police to identify those behind the attacks and determine whether the attempts were aimed at disrupting services, accessing data or both.
While acknowledging the seriousness of the cyber threats, CBSE reiterated that its systems remained secure and that students and parents need not worry about the safety of their examination-related information.
