On this day in 1986, First Anti-smoking ad aired on Television featuring Actor Yul Brynner, who died of smoking-induced lung cancer.Filmed shortly before his death from lung cancer, Brynner, who was often spotted with cigarettes in his mouth, urged his listeners to not smoke. 'Now that I'm gone, I tell you: Don't smoke, whatever you do. Just don't smoke,' Brynner says in a throaty voice in the American Cancer Society television commercial.The actor was most famous for his role as the King of Siam in the musical ″The King and I.″Brynner fought lung cancer for several years and often told interviewers that he wanted to leave an anti-smoking campaign as his legacy. The 30-second TV commercial is taken from an interview on ABC's 'Good Morning America' in which he was asked what he would tell smokers if he could speak to them after his death.It shows a close-up of Brynner in January 1985. He says, 'If I could take back that smoking we wouldn't be talking about any cancer. I'm convinced of that.'Brynner died at the age of 65 on Oct 10, 1985.
