10_July_Trivia_Jaano_Junction.pngOn 10th July 1962, Telstar 1, the first communications satellite to transmit live television signals and telephone conversations across the Atlantic Ocean, was launched by NASA. It inaugurated a new age in electronic communications. The satellite was made by a collaboration between organisations in the U.S., the U.K., and France, and transmitted the first live television images in the world. It remained active for only 7 months, a much shorter service life than today's artificial satellites. Although it no longer works, it is still in the Earth’s orbit.
