India batter Rohit Sharma's future in the ODI setup has come under fresh scrutiny following reports that sections of the BCCI selection committee are considering moving on from the veteran ahead of the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup.

According to NDTV sources, some members of the selection committee no longer see Rohit as part of their long-term plans. Reports also suggest that the third ODI against England at Lord's could potentially be his final appearance in the format, although no official confirmation has been made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the player.

The report states that a section of the selectors had communicated their intention to move beyond Rohit even before India's ODI series against Afghanistan in June. The matter was later revisited during the ongoing tour of England.

Despite the reported discussions, Rohit was included in the squads for both the Afghanistan and England series. According to the report, senior figures in Indian cricket believed the former captain remained too significant a player to be left out.

Earlier, India captain Shubman Gill had indicated that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were expected to feature in India's plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, the latest reports suggest there are differing views within the selection panel regarding Rohit's future.

The report also claims that head coach Gautam Gambhir has supported the selectors' position during the England tour and that Rohit may not be considered for future ODI assignments after the series. These claims have not been officially confirmed by the BCCI or Gambhir.

Sources further indicated that the final decision on Rohit's future may depend on wider discussions within Indian cricket administration, with differing opinions reportedly existing among members of the selection committee.

As of now, neither Rohit Sharma nor the BCCI has issued an official statement regarding the reports, leaving the veteran batter's ODI future uncertain.
