The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee on Tuesday announced India’s 15-man squad for the next month’s Asia Cup. The squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav with the team placed in Group A alongside UAE, Pakistan and Oman.
Shubman Gill, who was in sublime form during IPL 2025 and the recent England tour, is back in the squad and will continue as the vice-captain. Gill last played a T20I during the Sri Lanka tour last year following which he missed out series against Bangladesh, South Africa and England to concentrate on Tests and ODIs.
Jasprit Bumrah is also back with his last T20I game being the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup. There were speculations over his inclusion given how he was carefully handled by the team during the England Test series when he played in three of the five matches.
Yashasvi Jaiswal misses out in the main squad but is part of the five-man standby list that also includes Praisdh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel.
India, the defending champions, will begin their campaign on September 10 when they face UAE in Dubai. Next, they will be up against Pakistan three days later at the same venue.
Their group campaign ends on September 19 when they face Oman in Abu Dhabi. The group stage will give way to Super Four followed by the final on September 28.
The tournament will be held in T20 format and was originally slated to be held in India. However, thanks to the diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, it has been shifted to UAE.
