Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel has been arrested in connection with a criminal case registered following a complaint by a medical student alleging rape, criminal intimidation, assault and other offences. Police arrested the Bengal cricketer from Emami City under the Dum Dum police station area, according to Hooghly Rural Superintendent of Police Kunwar Bhushan Singh.

The woman further alleged that Porel had promised to marry her but later refused to do so. She accused the cricketer of engaging in a sexual relationship with her on the promise of marriage and subsequently subjecting her to assault and criminal intimidation.

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the allegations. A police official, speaking to PTI, confirmed that a complaint had been received and that an investigation was underway.

Porel has denied the allegations in the past. His arrest should not be treated as a finding of guilt, and the claims made against him remain allegations unless established by a court of law.

The cricketer has also represented Bengal in domestic cricket. He made his first-class debut during the 2021-22 season and has subsequently played 32 first-class matches and 23 List A games. His performances at the domestic level also led to opportunities with India A, including tours to the United Kingdom and Australia.

As the proceedings continue, Porel's previous denial of the allegations remains part of the case. The arrest represents a procedural development in the criminal investigation rather than a determination of guilt. Any final conclusion regarding the allegations will depend on the evidence presented during the legal process and the findings of the competent court.
