Brazil fast bowler Laura Cardoso has entered her name in the record books by becoming the first cricketer in the world to take 9 wickets in a T20I match. The 21-year-old right-arm medium pacer dismissed nine batters during the women’s T20I match played between Brazil and Lesotho in Gaborone (Oval 2) on April 9, 2026.

She bowled 3 overs and picked up 9 wickets for 4 runs to help her team bowl Lesotho out for just 13 runs in reply to Brazil’s total of 202/8.

According to ICC, the previous record of best bowling figures in a T20I match was held by Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey. Soman dismissed eight opposition batters for just seven runs against Myanmar in a men’s T20I in Gelephu on December 26, 2025.

The record of best bowling figures in a women’s T20I match played between the two full-member nations (Test-playing nations) is in New Zealand spinner Amy Satterthwaite’s name. Amy Satterthwaite picked up 6 wickets for 17 runs in four overs against England in Taunton on August 16, 2007.

In men’s T20Is, Deepak Chahar of India tops the list of bowlers with best bowling figures in a full-member match. In the T20I match played between India and Bangladesh in Nagpur on November 10, 2019, Chahar picked up 6 wickets for 7 runs in 3.2 overs.
