Anshul Kamboj has been added to the Indian squad in England as a back-up fast bowler. The Haryana-based right-arm pacer will now be with the team due to injury concerns surrounding Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh.
Deep, who played a key role in making India the victor at Edgbaston, may be ruled out of the upcoming fourth Test in Manchester as the player is reportedly dealing with an injury he picked up during the third match at Lord’s. His injury became even more apparent as was seen holding his hip and walking in discomfort after completing his 30th over and dismissing Harry Brook. Although Akash made a return to the field later, he was not seen bowling again. He came out to bat in the nightwatchman role toward the end of the game and faced 11 deliveries.
Arshdeep Singh is currently recovering from a finger injury earlier this week at the nets. He has been effectively ruled out for the remainder of the series after the injury required stitches.
Akash Deep’s injury can be a potential setback for India, especially as the team continues to carefully push forward while managing Jasprit Bumrah’s workload during the tour. Assistant Coach Ryan Ten Doeschate still keeps the door open for Bumrah’s participation in the pivotal fourth test in Manchester.
The upcoming test is even more crucial for the Indian team as India is trailing 2-1 in the five match series followed by a narrow defeat at Lord’s.
Earlier in the day, The Indian Express reported that Anshul Kamboj had been added to the Indian squad as cover following Arshdeep Singh’s Injury. A BCCI official told the publication that the pacer is expected to have a 10 day period of recovery.
“Arshdeep has a deep cut and required stitches. He is likely to need at least ten days to fully recover. The selectors have therefore decided to bring Kamboj into the squad,” the BCCI source told The Indian Express
