At the highly anticipated 48th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Chairman Mukesh Ambani made a landmark announcement introducing ‘Reliance Intelligence’, a new wholly owned subsidiary that aims to put India at the center of global artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.
Ambani revealed that Reliance Intelligence is built around four key missions designed to accelerate India’s transition into a deep-tech powerhouse. First, the company is developing India’s next-generation AI infrastructure starting with gigawatt-scale at AI-ready data centers in Jamnagar, Gujarat. These massive facilities, which are now under construction, will run entirely on green energy from Reliance’s new energy ecosystem and will support nation-scale AI training and analytics. The rollout will happen in phases to keep pace with India’s dynamic technology needs.
The second mission is to become a global hub for AI partnerships. Reliance Intelligence will collaborate with international tech leaders and the open-source community to deliver high-performance, India-specific and resilient AI solutions while ensuring data compliance and reliability. Ambani was quick to highlight deepened partnerships with global tech giants Google and Meta. Both of them share Reliance’s ambition to democratize AI for India.
The third mission is to make AI accessible and affordable for everyone in India. Reliance Intelligence is committed to launching intuitive and reliable AI services that will benefit individuals, small businesses and large enterprises alike. Special focus will be placed on sectors of national importance like education, healthcare and agriculture ensuring that innovation reaches every corner of the country.
The fourth critical pillar of Reliance Intelligence is talent. The company will serve as a base for top researchers, engineers, designers and product innovators. It will combine rapid research with robust engineering to turn big ideas into real-world solutions for India and beyond. Ambani expressed confidence that this effort will establish India as a world leader in AI and technology innovation.
A major highlight from the AGM was Reliance’s expanded partnership with Google. Together, they are launching a dedicated Jamnagar Cloud region powered by renewable energy and Reliance Jio’s cutting-edge network. This infrastructure will empower Indian businesses with advanced AI tools and secure, world-class computing resources which will open the door for groundbreaking digital transformation across industries.
Reliance is also setting up a joint venture with Meta to deliver open-source AI models tailored for Indian needs. Through this alliance, Meta’s Llama technology will be made available to all kinds of Indian businesses being large and small which can use and customize these AI models as needed. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called this “a step forward to ensure everyone has access to AI and eventually superintelligence.” The joint venture will invest $100 million initially with Reliance holding a 70% stake and Meta 30%.
Ambani’s message was clear. Reliance Intelligence will strive to make India not just a consumer of AI but a global producer and innovator. With unmatched infrastructure, powerful global partnerships and a strong focus on social impact, Reliance is positioning India to become a central hub in the global race for AI supremacy.
This ambitious new undertaking underscores Reliance’s ongoing commitment to technological transformation, national development, and empowering every Indian through access to the most advanced technologies of tomorrow.
