The Haryana State Commission for Women Chairperson, Renu Bhatia, today said, “No matter how big a singer is, if he or she harbours derogatory thoughts about daughters and women, people should stop attending their events.” She made this statement during a Jan Sunwai programme in Ambala City.

Responding to media queries regarding rapper-musician Badshah, Bhatia said, “Badshah has done something that is not acceptable. The words he used for women and the message conveyed through his video will not be tolerated. He has been summoned for March 13 and must appear.”

She further added that the commission strongly condemns the indecent remarks made by Badshah about the daughters of Haryana. “If he does not appear, appropriate legal action will be taken, which will demonstrate that his intentions were not right. Until he clarifies his position, the commission will not allow him to hold any event in the state,” she said.

“I also appeal to the public that no matter how prominent a singer is, if they harbour such derogatory attitudes towards girls, people should avoid attending their shows. Efforts are also being made to take down the song from all platforms,” she added.

Speaking about the Jan Sunwai programme, Bhatia noted that such programmes were being organised under the direction of the National Commission for Women as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.

Bhatia informed that a total of 22 complaints (11 each from Ambala and Yamunanagar) listed on the agenda were heard during the programme, and directions were issued. While most complaints were resolved, four have been kept pending for the next hearing, which will be held in 10 days. Some unlisted complaints were also received and forwarded to the concerned officers.

The majority of the complaints were related to domestic disputes and separation.

“If we look at the cases coming before the commission, both men and women are equally guilty of engaging in relationships, extramarital affairs, leaving spouses, and living in live-in relationships. It is often the children who bear the impact, and the commission is taking appropriate action in every case after considering all the facts,” she said.

On the occasion, Additional Superintendent of Police Uttam, Ambala City SDM Darshan Kumar, Ambala Cantonment SDM Vinesh Kumar, Pooja Lodhi from the Commission, Protection Officer Arvinderjit Kaur, District Programme Officer from Women and Child Development Department Manisha Gagat, District Social Welfare Officer Surjit Kaur, DSP Suraj Chawla, DSP Rajat Gulia, and other concerned officials were present.
