A boy was physically assaulted by a police sub-inspector after he accidentally rode his cycle on a road in Gujarat's Surat city where a rehearsal of the Prime Minister's convoy was underway. A video of the incident, which took place on Thursday, a day before the PM's visit to Surat, has gone viral.

The footage shows vehicles of the PM's convoy passing by on the seemingly-empty road in the city's Limbayat area. As the cars continued to move, the boy is seen riding his cycle on the route.

Upon realising his mistake, he suddenly turns instead of moving forward.

The video then cuts to the sub-inspector, identified as BA Gadhvi, pulling the boy's hair, pushing and slapping him.

Gadhvi, who is posted in Morbi district, was in Surat as part of the security deployed for the PM's visit.

The incident has led to several concerns regarding the safety of the convoy as well as negligence on the part of the police. Officials have called for action against those responsible for the lapse in security.
