Congress urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene an all-party meeting as soon as he returned from his three-nation trip. Congress further stated that foreign policy and the country’s diplomacy was hugely impacted especially when Pakistan Army Field Marshal Asim Munir was invited for a dinner with US President Donal Trump.
On Tuesday, PM Modi and President Donald Trump exchanged a phone call between each. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has shared that during the phone call PM Modi strongly put forward that Delhi will never accept third-party mediation with Pakistan on the issue of Kashmir. Following the four day long clash between the two South Asian nations, Trump has consistently reached out to mediate the ‘Kashmir Issue’.
Kashmir has long remained a sensitive issue between both the nuclear regions and faced immense dispute. India has considered Kashmir as an integral part of its heritage and doesn’t tolerate any negotiations performed through a third party.
In the view of the recent US invitation to the Pakistani Army Field Marshal, General Secretary in charge of communications of the opposition party Jairam Naresh has stated that Indira Gandhi would have expressed her displeasure to the US President during her tenure.
Congress party has criticised Narendra Modi and pointed out the ‘triple jhatka’ or ‘triple setback’ for Indian diplomacy. Ramesh has spoken about the Pakistani Field Marshal who is set to have lunch with Trump despite his unacceptable remarks that may have laid the foundation for the Pahalgam terror attack. Jairam Ramesh sees this as a setback. Another diplomatic blow according to Ramesh, US Central Command Chief General Micheal Kurilla’s statement which called Pakistan a ‘phenomenal partner’ in counter-terrorism efforts. The third setback stated by Ramesh was Donald Trump taking credit for India and Pakistan’s ceasefire.
The Congress General Secretary said that the party is quiet about it and hasn’t objected to it. He further added, “Today, we are told that Modi had a 35 minute phone call with Trump and he said many of the things that Foreign Secretary has given a readout. Say the same thing in the Parliament. Call a special session of Parliament. Call an all-party meeting tomorrow and say the same things that Modi has supposedly told Trump.”
