Supreme Court extends deadline for AAP to vacate Delhi office till August 10

AAP is seeking allotment of space for its office by the Centre on account of it being recognised as a national party. The party has been asked to vacate its current office in Delhi's Rouse Avenue by June 15.

The Supreme Court on Monday extended time for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to vacate its Rouse Avenue party office by August 10. The order was passed after the AAP filed an application seeking an extension of the earlier deadline fixed by the court to vacate premises i.e., June 15.

A vacation bench comprising justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta took note of the submissions of senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the AAP and others, and extended the deadline till August 10.

"Considering facts and circumstances of the case, as the last opportunity, we extend the time granted by earlier order till August 10, 2024 on undertaking by the applicant within week from today before the registry that they will hand over peaceful possession of property," the Supreme Court said.

AAP is seeking allotment of space for its office by the Centre on account of it being recognised as a national party.

The top court had on March 4 directed the party to vacate its office by June 15 after noting that the plot was allotted to the Delhi High Court for expanding judicial infrastructure.

The bench said the AAP will have to hand over possession of the building at 206, Rouse Avenue on or before August 10.

"Every year our building costs are being escalated. Till August, the court may consider, but not more," Delhi HC counsel said.

"Whatever politics is between the Centre and them. We have a shortage of 90 courtroom," it added.
