The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its order on the Karnataka government’s plea challenging the High Court’s decision to grant bail to actor Darshan and others in the Renukaswamy murder case. The court questioned the manner in which the High Court gave the order granting bail to actor Darshan and others.

“Does HC dictate same orders in other cases as well?" the bench asked

The Supreme Court expressed serious concerns, saying, “High Court’s approach is troubling us." It further questioned the understanding of the High Court judge, calling it “a question of perverse exercise of discretion."

“We are trying to examine while exercising discretion has HC applied its mind judiciously; that’s our concern," the Supreme Court added.

Addressing Pavitra’s lawyer, the court said, “All this happened because of you. You are root cause of the problem."

The Supreme Court assured, “We will examine everything and take a call." It warned, “We will not make the same mistake as HC did."

The bench also said, “We are little serious as it is a case of murder." It concluded, “We will see if prosecution’s case aspires confidence or not."

The case pertains to a plea filed by the state government challenging the high court’s order dated December 13, 2024, which had granted bail to Darshan, who is accused of being involved in the torture and killing of 33-year-old Renukaswamy.

The Supreme Court stressed that it will carefully examine all aspects of the case before taking a decision and asserted, “We will not make the same mistake as the High Court did."

Highlighting the gravity of the case, the bench said, “We are taking this matter seriously, as it involves murder. We will assess whether the prosecution’s case inspires confidence or not."
