
At least four people died, and two others were injured after a speeding car hit them and fled the spot in Uttarakhand's Dehradun on Wednesday, police said.
The incident happened near the Sai Temple on the Rajpur Road where the driver of the car lost control and ran the vehicle over people walking by the side of the road as well as a few motorists.
A CCTV footage shows a Mercedes-Benz pacing towards Sahastradhara Road after the accident.
After hearing the crashing sound, locals ran out of their homes and shops and rushed to help those hit. They immediately informed the police and the injured were rushed to Doon Hospital in critical condition.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was moving at a very high speed and suddenly got out of control and hit the pedestrians and motorists.
As per the information, two labourers were among the four who died and have been identified as 30-year-old Mansha Ram and 35-year-old Ranjit from Ayodhya. Two other victims are yet to be identified by the police.
Also, two others riding a scooter were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
After the incident, the accused driver fled from the spot along with the car. The police have immediately started investigating the case and the search for the accused is underway with the help of CCTV footage.
According to police, the vehicle involved in the incident bears a Chandigarh registration number.
Dehradun Police have recovered the vehicle involved in the road accident that took place on Rajpur Road on March 12. The vehicle was found abandoned in an empty plot in the Sahastradhara area.
During the investigation, police discovered that the vehicle responsible for the accident was purchased from Delhi. Based on this information, a team was immediately dispatched to Delhi to gather more information. Simultaneously, another special team traveled to Chandigarh to question the vehicle owner.
