Punjab chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Bhagwant Singh Mann and his wife, Dr Gurpreet Kaur, were blessed with a daughter on Thursday. Both mother and child are healthy and are admitted at a Mohali hospital.
“God has given the gift of a daughter..Both the mother and the child are healthy…,” Mann posted on X. Kaur was admitted to Fortis Hospital on Wednesday and the Punjab chief minister arrived there on Thursday morning.
The couple got married in July 2022 in Chandigarh, four months after Mann took oath as the Punjab Chief Minister — March 2022.
The AAP leader divorced his first wife Inderpreet Kaur in 2015 and has two children from that marriage — daughter Seerat Kaur Mann (23) and son Dilshan Singh Mann (19).
Gurpreet Kaur — hailing from Haryana’s Kurukshetra — did her MBBS from Maharishi Markandeshwar University in Haryana’s Mullana in 2018.
Mann had made the surprise announcement during his address on Republic Day celebrations in Ludhiana.
He had urged people to dismiss the idea of sex determination tests. “I am also expecting a bundle of joy in my home in March. My wife is seven months pregnant. We have consciously chosen not to discover the gender and won’t do so in the future either. I urge everyone to avoid such practices,” Mann was quoted by Hindustan Times.
