In a shocking incident, a leader from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party, Janta Dal (United), was killed in broad daylight in Khagaria on Thursday.

As per the report by NDTV, the deceased leader, identified as Rajkishor Nishad, was killed by a group of assailants allegedly using an iron rod.

The incident came just two days after BJP leader Surendra Kewat was shot dead by two bike-borne men in Patna. The 52-year-old suffered four bullet injuries in the attack. He was rushed to the AIIMS in Patna, where he died during treatment.

Meanwhile in another incident, the father of a JDU bloc leader was murdered under suspicious circumstances in Rohtas today. Parasnath Singh, father of JD(U) Block President Rakesh Kumar alias Bhola, was killed in Amara village under Tilauthu block of Sasaram.

According to local police, Parasnath Singh had built a cowshed in the village two months ago, where he stayed to take care of his cattle and sometimes drove an auto-rickshaw to support his family. In the early hours of Thursday, villagers found Singh murdered inside the cowshed with blood splattered all over the place.

In another incident, unidentified miscreants opened fire at a hospital in Patna today morning in which a person, identified as Chandan Mishra, who was out on parole and was undergoing treatment at Paras HMRI hospital, was shot dead.

The attackers were identified as those working as builders, associated with a real estate firm, in the area. The attackers had been allegedly involved in crime-related activities earlier.

The string of murder incidents has become a challenge for the Nitish Kumar government in the election year as it struggles to counter the Opposition’s narrative on Bihar’s law and order situation.

Additionally, Union Minister and NDA ally Chirag Paswan hit out at the Nitish Kumar-led BJP-JDU government, saying that Bihar’s law and order situation has become a cause for concern.

“Law and order in Bihar has become a serious concern today. Murders are happening every day, and the morale of criminals is sky-high. The functioning of the police and administration is beyond comprehension…" Paswan said in a post on X.
