The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a water cut in the city due to low water reserves. The move will be implemented starting with a 5 per cent cut from May 30, increased to a 10 per cent from June 5 as a precautionary measure to ensure that the stock is used for as long as possible", the civic body announced on X.

The BMC said that water cuts will be in place till "satisfactory rainfall" is received and the stock of water bodies improves.

"The BMC administration is keeping a close watch on the water stock and is supplying water in a planned manner every day... Mumbaikars have no reason to panic. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration humbly appeals to all citizens to use water judiciously," the tweet further read.

The civic body said that as of May 25, a total of 1,40,202 million litres of water is available in the dams supplying water to Mumbai, and currently, only 9.69 per cent of the water stock is available as opposed to the 14,47,363 million litres per annum requirement.

"By adopting water saving measures, Mumbaikars should save as much water as possible, use water judiciously, and cooperate with the efforts of the municipal administration," the BMC's post said.
