The Uttar Pradesh Police are trying to put pieces together in the case of the two teenage girls found hanging from the same tree in Uttar Pradesh, by establishing the connection between the items recovered from the scene and the victims.
The case, as the police have said, looks to be a double suicide, and they are trying to find the reason behind the same. However, the families have alleged murder.
The autopsy has revealed that the teenagers, who were close friends, died by asphyxiation (suffocation).
The teenagers, aged 18 and 15, were found hanging from the same dupatta and from the same tree in a mango orchard in Farrukhabad. Both belonged to the Scheduled Caste.
A mobile phone, belonging to the cousin of the elder girl, and a SIM card were recovered from the scene. Furthermore, the SIM card was found in the clothes of the younger victim.
The police are now trying to find why the SIM card was found in the clothes of the 15-year-old victim, and what might be the connection between the item and the girl. They are also trying to uncover why only one SIM card was removed from a dual SIM mobile phone. The police have gathered the device's IMEI and the call details of the SIM card to dig deeper into the case.
Moreover, the recovered items have been sent to the cyber laboratory to recover data and aid in the investigation.
The girls' bodies were found on Tuesday morning in the orchard. They had gone out to watch the Janmashthami programme with their families on Monday night, and the orchard was 150 metres away from the venue.
The cousin - whose mobile phone was found on the scene - also watched the event with the teenagers' families.
