A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by a local journalist and a police sub-inspector in Kanpur’s Sachendi area.
The case was initially registered against unknown persons after a complaint was filed alleging the sexual assault of the minor. During the investigation, police identified two suspects. One of them has been taken into custody, while the other, a police sub-inspector, is currently absconding.
Confirming the developments, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said multiple teams have been formed to trace the absconding officer and ensure swift action.
“A case of rape was registered in Sachendi involving a minor girl. The complaint was filed against unknown persons. Based on the allegations, two individuals have been identified, and one accused has been apprehended. The name of a police sub-inspector has also surfaced. Raids are being conducted to apprehend him. He is currently absconding. Four teams have been deployed. His arrest will be ensured as soon as possible," he said.
According to the complaint, the incident took place when the minor had stepped out of her home around 10 PM on Monday night. She was allegedly abducted by two men travelling in an SUV. One of the accused was wearing a police uniform.
The girl was then taken to an isolated location where she was allegedly sexually assaulted inside the vehicle for nearly two hours. She was later abandoned in an unconscious state outside her house, said the official.
According to the complaint, the victim’s brother said he found her lying outside the house around midnight in a semi-conscious state. He claimed that although he immediately called the police by dialling 112, there was a delay in action.
The family later took the matter to senior officials on Tuesday, after which an FIR was registered under sections related to kidnapping and gang rape.
Further probe into the matter is underway.
