Madras HC Orders Udhayanidhi Stalin's Release Hours After Arrest in Trisha Remark Case

The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed the Tamil Nadu Police to release Udhayanidhi Stalin after questioning him in connection with his alleged "double-meaning" remark about actor Trisha. The DMK leader was arrested earlier in the day and taken to Thanjavur for interrogation.

During the hearing, the court was informed that the police only intended to question

Udhayanidhi and did not plan to seek his judicial custody. Accepting the submission, the High Court ordered his release after the questioning was completed.

The court also directed Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, to cooperate with the investigation whenever required by the authorities.

Court Orders Release After Questioning

During the hearing, the Tamil Nadu government's Advocate General, Vijay Narayan, informed the Madras High Court that Udhayanidhi Stalin had been taken to Thanjavur only for questioning and would not be remanded to judicial custody.

The Advocate General submitted that the police intended to question the DMK leader in connection with the case and subsequently release him on station bail.

Taking note of the government's submission, the Madras High Court directed the police to release Udhayanidhi Stalin after completing the questioning, while allowing the investigation to continue in accordance with the law.
