The government on Thursday advised Indian nationals to avoid travelling to Pakistan and those in Pakistan to return home at the earliest. The government's move came days after terrorists opened fire on a group of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, claiming the lives of 26 people, including a foreign national.

The advisory was issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) following the Cabinet Committee on Security's diplomatic offensive against Pakistan after the attack.

"Indian nationals are strongly advised to avoid travelling to Pakistan. Those Indian nationals currently in Pakistan are also advised to return to India at the earliest," the MEA said.

The government also announced the suspension of visa services for Pakistani nationals with immediate effect. All existing Indian visas issued to Pakistani citizens stand cancelled from April 27, 2025.

Medical visas issued earlier will remain valid only till April 29, 2025. Pakistani nationals currently in India have been asked to leave the country before their visas expire, as per the new rules.

The move comes two days after the massacre in Pahalgam.
