The Bombay High Court directed actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra to first deposit Rs 60 crore if they wish to travel to Los Angeles and other foreign destinations, sources said on Wednesday.
The order came while hearing their plea seeking to quash a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against them in connection with a ₹60 crore fraud case.
The couple had approached the High Court after the LOC prevented them from travelling abroad, arguing that the case was based on false allegations.
However, the court observed that since the alleged fraud amount totals ₹60 crore, the petitioners must deposit the equivalent sum before being allowed to leave the country. The matter will be heard further after compliance with the directive.
Actor Shilpa Shetty on Tuesday told the Mumbai Police that she was not involved in managing the affairs of the company she co-founded with her husband Raj Kundra, in connection with a ₹60 crore cheating case, an official said on Tuesday.
A team from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) visited Shetty’s residence on October 4 and recorded her statement during a four-hour-long questioning session, the official added.
In her statement, the actor clarified that she had no active role in the operations of Best Deal TV Private Limited, the company that has since been liquidated, and that she was unaware of the alleged financial irregularities under investigation.
