A wave of bomb threats targeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s residence in Chennai, along with the state BJP headquarters and the house of South actress Trisha. Police have launched an investigation.

A bomb threat was reported at Trisha’s residence in Chennai’s Teynampet locality, prompting a police search with sniffer dogs. Similar threats were also allegedly made to the Tamil Nadu Governor’s residence, according to multiple reports.

This incident occurred over a month after Stalin reportedly received a bomb threat ahead of a flag hoisting ceremony on August 15. The threat created a stir in the administration and caused panic within the police department as well. The caller, identified as Ganesh, was taken into custody.

In July, Stalin’s Chennai residence received a similar bomb threat. A bomb threat call was received by the control room of the Old Commissioner’s office, The Hindu reported, adding that the caller identified as Vinothkumar said a bomb had been placed in the CM’s house. It turned out to be a hoax.

This adds to a long list of bomb threats linked to Stalin. In 2024, a bomb threat email targeting the flight Stalin was to board to San Francisco triggered panic at Chennai airport. That threat was later declared a hoax after a thorough investigation.

A young man was arrested for issuing a bomb threat at Stalin’s residence in August 2023. As per several reports, the man claimed he had planted a bomb in the Chief Minister’s residence and disconnected the call.

Meanwhile, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s residence in Neelankarai, Chennai, also received a bomb threat earlier this week, a day after a deadly stampede at his political rally in Karur claimed 41 lives.

After Vijay reached his residence on Saturday midnight, following the fatal stampede tragedy at his rally in Karur, security was beefed up at his residence, with local Chennai city police and CRPF personnel deployed around his home.
