The Election Commission of India released the draft electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh, reflecting major changes following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. As per the draft list, Uttar Pradesh now has 12.55 crore registered voters. A total of 2,88,75,000 names have been deleted, accounting for around 18.70 per cent of the 15,44,00,000 voters who were part of the pre-SIR electoral roll. Officials said the deletions were carried out for reasons such as death, change of residence or voters being enrolled elsewhere.
Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa said that names cannot be deleted from the SIR draft electoral roll without issuing prior notice to the concerned voters.
Most of the deletions were reported from major urban centres, including Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, and Kanpur.
The publication of the draft roll was delayed three times after the SIR began on October 27 across 12 states and Union Territories. Following its release, the Election Commission will invite claims, objections and revisions for one month, until February 6. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on March 6.
Uttar Pradesh Draft Voter List: How To Check Your Name?
Voters can check their details online on the official website of the Election Commission. By entering basic information such as name, district, assembly constituency or polling station details, voters can easily verify their status. If a voter’s name is missing from the list or if there are errors in the details, complaints and correction requests can be submitted both online and offline during the claims and objections period.
The Election Commission clarified that the draft voter list is not final. After all claims and objections are examined and resolved, the final voter list will be published on March 6, which will form the basis for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The poll body urged voters to check their names without delay.
