Tahawwur Rana, accused of masterminding the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, landed in Delhi on Thursday evening on a special aircraft.
Correction: An earlier version of this copy mentioned that Tahawwur Rana was brought to Delhi in the afternoon. However, the special flight landed in the evening around 6.30 pm. Stay tuned for the latest updates on Tahawwur Rana extradition.
Rana was flown in on a special flight accompanied by a joint team of Indian intelligence and investigative officers. Tight security arrangements are in place in the national capital, with a convoy of bulletproof vehicles and armed commandos stationed at Delhi's Palam airport.
The convoy will transport Rana to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters, where a high-security interrogation cell has been prepared. Rana is set to face trial for his role in the 26/11 attacks, which left 166 people dead during a three-day siege of Mumbai.
The 26/11 plotter is likely to be produced before a Delhi court for custody later. He faces charges of criminal conspiracy, waging war against India, murder, forgery, and violations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Rana’s extradition marks a major diplomatic and legal breakthrough for India in its pursuit of justice more than 15 years after the attacks.
