A tourist bus carrying attendees of a wedding event overturned at Kakkoor near Koothattukulam in Kerala, leaving 35 people injured, including four who sustained serious injuries. The bus was travelling from Kalady to Elanji when the accident occurred, police said.
According to the information, the bus was reportedly giving way to a motorcycle rider, who was attempting an erroneous manoeuvre when the driver of the bus lost control. The vehicle subsequently overturned and crashed into a petrol pump in the area. The motorcyclist, who was at the spot when the accident took place, narrowly escaped injury.
Four of the injured passengers were shifted to a private hospital in Koothattukulam for treatment. The condition of those seriously injured was not immediately known.
Other passengers who sustained injuries were also provided medical attention following the accident. The incident caused concern among local residents and motorists in the area.
CCTV footage of the accident has since emerged, showing the moments surrounding the crash. The footage is expected to assist authorities in determining the circumstances that led to the accident.
The incident came as the wedding group was travelling between Kalady and Elanji. Further details regarding the identities of the injured passengers and the exact extent of damage to the petrol pump were awaited.
