Amid escalating parents’ concerns about teenagers’ mobility options, Uber has rolled out the ‘Uber for Teens’ service for children between 13 and 17 years of age in India. The program is designed to ensure safe, secure, and easy transportation for children and their families.

Uber’s introduction of ‘Uber for Teens’ is a positive change for teenagers' transportation problems along with their caretakers. By emphasising parental control, convenience, and, most importantly, safety, Uber has created an option that not only provides teenagers with independence but parents can also feel secure about their children’s safety.

There are plans to roll out the service all over the country, which will make it easier for families to rely on it for safe transportation services for children.

‘Uber for Teens’ is now offered in 37 cities, which include Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and other metropolitan cities.

This wide coverage allows a great portion of the teenage demographics to use the service and gain independence while still under the accountability of their parents.

For the 'Uber for Teens' service, Uber has made sure to incorporate certain elements owing to the safety needs of users:

Teen GPS tracking: Each ride is marked with a specific GPS tracker that allows the parent's side to see where their teens are at all times.

Riders unlimited ride access: Parents are provided real-time updates and can track the ride through their own app so they can see what is actually happening.

In-app support button: This feature allows the implement help from the side of either the juvenile or his parents.

Elderly controls: The parents are capable of booking rides to approve them, or to simply keep an eye on all the rides their teenagers take.

HOW TO BOOK A RIDE WITH UBER FOR TEENS

Scheduling an Uber ride for teens requires taking the following steps:

  • A verified Uber account holder parent/guardian sends an Uber invite to the teenager.

  • The teenager registers for his or her account and then pairs it with the parent's account.

  • The teenager is now able to start reserving rides while parents get real-time notifications and tracking information.

  • Parents can also reserve rides for their teenagers.
