Two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district were gunned down by the Indian Army on Thursday.
The encounter took place near Naushehra Naar under Operation Naushera Nar IV, where alert troops engaged a group of infiltrators trying to cross into Indian territory. A brief exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists.
At first light, the Indian Army also launched a massive search operation in the area to ensure no other infiltrators were present. The bodies of the slain terrorists were located during the sweep.
Following the encounter, a search operation was launched in the surrounding area to rule out the presence of any additional infiltrators or suspicious activity.
“Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Operation is in progress,” Indian Army shared an update in a post on X.
In a separate counter-terror operation earlier this month, three terrorists were killed and one soldier injured under Operation Akhal. The total number of terrorists killed in Operation Akhal was six.
On August 2, security forces eliminated three militants during an encounter in the Akhal forest area. The operation began on August 1 after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of armed militants in the dense forest region.
A cordon and search operation was launched, which triggered an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on the advancing troops. After an initial exchange of gunfire, the operation was briefly halted overnight and resumed the following morning, leading to the killing of three more terrorists.
High-tech surveillance systems and elite paramilitary units have been deployed in the operation. Officials confirmed that the militants neutralised under this operation were affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The group had earlier claimed responsibility for the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians.
