Two people died, and five others were injured after a massive Ganesh idol of ‘Bhuleshwaracha Raja’ fell during its arrival procession in Mumbai’s Bhuleshwar area on Saturday night, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, according to news agency ANI.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place at around 9.51 pm on Saturday during the arrival ceremony of the Ganesh idol near Kabutarkhana at Jay Ambe Chowk in Bhuleshwar.

The incident occurred as devotees had gathered in the area for the arrival procession of the Ganesh idol associated with the ‘Bhuleshwaracha Raja’ Ganpati celebrations.

Multiple Agencies Mobilised After Incident

The incident was reported by CP Control, following which multiple agencies were mobilised to the spot, ANI reported.

The response involved the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, Traffic Police, 108 Emergency Ambulance Service and BMC ward staff.

The agencies were deployed following the incident to respond to those affected and manage the situation at the location.

Two People Declared Brought Dead

According to the BMC, one person was initially brought dead to GT Hospital, while two injured persons were undergoing treatment.

Later, officials confirmed that two people had died and five others sustained injuries, ANI reported.

The deceased were identified as Sanket Nevshe, 33, and Brijesh Hemant Joshi, 30. Both were declared brought dead at the hospital.

Among those injured in the incident are two minor girls aged five and seven years, according to the BMC.

Further details regarding the condition of the injured were awaited, ANI reported.
