Traffic across several parts of Noida and nearby areas was heavily disrupted after a protest by a labour union turned violent on Monday morning, triggering panic in the area.
In the wake of the clash, traffic authorities have warned commuters of delays and urged them to plan routes as congestion and diversions may continue to impact key stretches.
Traffic Diversions Announced
The Noida Traffic Police have announced diversions at multiple key routes to manage congestion and maintain smooth movement.
In a post on X, it announced traffic diversions on the Puri Square route, Sandeep Paper Mill Road and on the route from Sector–62 roundabout towards NIB Police Post.
The traffic police also released a helpline number (9971009001) for commuters.
The massive traffic jam, induced by the protest which began early in the day, also brought vehicular movement to a near standstill at the Delhi-Noida border. The clash led to congestion on key arterial roads connecting Delhi and Noida, including NH 9, severely disrupting the office rush hour. Long queues of vehicles were seen stretching for several kilometres, with many commuters stranded for hours.
Violent Protest In Noida Triggers Panic
According to police, hundreds of workers poured onto the streets across Phase II and other industrial areas, escalating their protest. The unrest turned more serious in Sector 84, where demonstrators allegedly torched two vehicles. The agitation also reached Sector 62, triggering severe traffic congestion in the area.
Noida Police said sufficient forces have been deployed across key industrial zones, with senior officials from both the police and administration monitoring the situation on the ground. Authorities were engaging with workers to defuse tensions and restore normalcy. Further, police have cautioned the public against believing rumours.
Commuters, meanwhile, reported long traffic snarls near the Crown Plaza flyover in Mayur Vihar, further adding to disruptions across the National Capital Region.
The protests have continued despite a meeting held a day earlier involving district officials, police, and the industrial authority, where assurances were reportedly given to address workers’ concerns. With tensions still simmering, traffic disruptions are likely to persist until the situation is fully stabilised.
