A software engineer allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death inside her rented flat in Haryana's Gurugram before dying by suicide by jumping in front of a train, police said. The shocking case came to light after the woman's family grew worried when she stopped answering their calls and alerted the police.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Gurugram, with investigators now trying to establish what led to the suspected murder-suicide.
The victim, identified as Ishara Ayubi, was originally from Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur and was living in a rented accommodation in Sector 55, Gurugram.
According to police, her family contacted Sector 56 police station after repeated calls to her went unanswered.
When officers reached the flat and forced the door open, they found Ishara lying in a pool of blood.
A preliminary investigation suggests she was stabbed multiple times with a knife.
Forensic experts later reached the scene and began collecting evidence.
During the investigation, police learnt that the victim's friend, Shresth Malik, 25, a software engineer from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh, had visited her flat.
While police were searching for him, they received information about a man's body lying in two pieces on the railway tracks near the Garhi railway station.
The victim was identified as Malik through the mobile phone recovered from him, linking the two cases, police said.
According to the police, he took the drastic step after committing Ayubi's murder.
Police have sent both bodies for post-mortem examination and informed their families.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ayubi had moved into accommodation with Malik just three days before the incident, a senior police officer said.
The officer said investigators were examining all aspects of the case, adding that the nature of the relationship between the two and the motive behind the incident would become clear only after the probe was completed.
Police are also analysing the duo's mobile phones, call records, chats and other technical evidence.
An FIR has been registered on charges of murder, and further investigation is underway, the officer added.
