In an era where scams are becoming more and more technical and dangerous, it's crucial for individuals to stay alert. A recent incident shared by an X user named Kaveri serves as a stark reminder of the cunning tactics employed by scammers. Kaveri shared details of the scam that involved a fake cop.

In the X post, Kaveri received a call from an unknown number, with the caller identifying himself as a police officer and alleging that her daughter was in serious trouble. According to the ‘fake cop’ scammer, her daughter and three friends were accused of filming an MLA’s son in a compromising situation and attempting to blackmail him.

“I got a call about an hour ago from an unknown number. I unusually do not respond to unknown numbers, but I don't know what made me answer this call. On the other end was a guy who said he is a cop and asked me if I knew where my daughter K is,” the post read.

The scam took a distressing turn when a recording, eerily similar to her daughter's voice crying for help, was played over the phone.

“I asked him to let me speak do my daughter properly. He got all angry and rude. We are taking her away then, he said,” Kaveri detailed in the post.

The post has garnered over 61k views and tons of alarmed reactions. Kaveri's experience also underscores the potential use of artificial intelligence by scammers to mimic voices, making it even more challenging to distinguish between genuine and fraudulent calls.
