Pakistani forces opened “unprovoked" fire at multiple locations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Saturday, said officials.
The Indian Army effectively retaliated to the speculative firing, marking the second apparent ceasefire violation by Pakistan in two days, military sources told.
No casualties were reported during the exchange of fire along the LoC, the officials said.
“On the night of 25th-26th of April 2025, unprovoked Small Firing was carried out by multiple Pakistan Army posts all across the Line of Control in Kashmir. Indian troops responded appropriately with small arms. No casualties reported," the statement read.
Speculative firing was also reported yesterday, with military sources indicating that Pakistani troops were testing the vigilance of Indian soldiers amid growing calls within India for strong action against terror hubs across the LoC.
The development comes as tensions escalated between the two countries in the last few days over the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed at least 26 innocent civilians, mostly tourists.
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by Kashmir Resistance, also known as The Resistance Front, a front for the Pakistan-based terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Hitting back, India announced several measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. New Delhi also announced the shutting down of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, the suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme to Pakistani nationals and the scaling down of top officials at the High Commission.
Pakistan rejected India’s move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any attempt to halt the flow of water would be considered an “act of war."
It also threatened to suspend the 1972 Simla Agreement, which validates the Line of Control.
