Noida and Greater Noida residents have reason to cheer as the inauguration date of the Jewar International Airport has been confirmed. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu announced during an event in Ghaziabad that the airport will be inaugurated on October 30, 2025.

Naidu further said, “Flight operations will begin within 45 days of the inauguration.”

Naidu also informed the media that discussions are underway with several airlines, and many have shown interest in operating from the new airport.

In the first phase, the airport will be connected to ten Indian cities, including major hubs such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Along with passenger services, cargo connectivity has been given special priority to strengthen the cargo network in the future.

On the construction front, finishing work at the domestic terminal is underway, while the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already installed essential equipment in the air traffic control tower. Recently, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) granted security clearance to the airport. The final approval required is the aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to begin operations.

The airport is being built in phases. In the first phase, it will handle 1.2 crore passengers annually with one runway and one terminal. The second and third phases will expand its capacity to 30 million and 50 million passengers, respectively, while the final phase will scale up to 70 million passengers.

Construction company YIAPL said that a successful test flight by IndiGo was conducted in December 2024, which validated the airport’s navigation systems and air traffic control technologies.

Currently, about 95 percent of the construction work is complete. The airport is running its Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer program, where all facilities, including baggage systems, security checks, check-in counters, and boarding gates are undergoing repeated trials to ensure smooth functioning before launch.
