Nine people were killed and 15 injured in an explosion at a power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district on Tuesday, police said.

According to a senior police officer, preliminary information has revealed that the blast occurred in a boiler tube at the Vedanta Limited power plant in Singhitarai village in the afternoon.

“Nine people died and 15 injured in a boiler blast at Vedanta Power Plant in Singhi Tarai area of Sakti district. The injured have been taken to hospital in Raigarh," said Prafull Thakur, Superintendent of Police, Sakti district.

After receiving information, local administration and police teams rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations.

The officer addeed that the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
