A Class 8 student in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore was reportedly made to take her Science exam outside the classroom because she was on her menstrual cycle.

The incident took place at a private school in Senguttai. A video, now viral, shows the child’s mother rushing to her and asking what happened. In the clip, the student tells her mother that it was the Principal who made her sit outside.

The mother, visibly upset, is heard questioning how a student could be made to sit outside during her period and take the exam.

In January this year, a Class 11 student of a girls' school in Uttar Pradesh was reportedly asked to leave the classroom for an hour after she asked for a sanitary napkin while taking an examination on Saturday.

The girl's father filed a complaint, claiming that his daughter realised her period had begun while she was in school for an examination.

The complainant said that after asking the principal for a sanitary pad, she was instructed to leave the classroom and forced to stand outside for almost an hour. He also filed formal grievances with the Department of Women's Welfare, the State Women's Commission, the District Magistrate, and the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS).

An official inquiry was called into the matter.
