Patna, May 26, 2025 – In a dramatic turn of events, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav announced today that he has removed his eldest son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from both the family and the party for a period of six years.
In a tweet posted this morning, Lalu Prasad Yadav cited Tej Pratap’s “irresponsible behavior” and “public conduct” as being at odds with the family’s values and the party’s commitment to social justice. The statement read in part:
"Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice. The activities, public conduct and irresponsible behavior of the eldest son are not in accordance with our family values and traditions. Therefore, I remove him from the party and family. From now on, he will not have any role of any kind in the party and family. He is expelled from the party for 6 years.”

Lalu Prasad Yadav went on to stress that individuals must “see the merits and demerits of their own personal lives” and that anyone choosing to associate with Tej Pratap “should take their own decisions.” He concluded by reaffirming his long‑held belief in holding public figures to high moral standards.
The announcement follows Tej Pratap’s social media controversy on May 24, when he first declared on Facebook that he and Anushka Yadav “have been in love and in a relationship for the past 12 years,” before tweeting that his accounts had been hacked and AI‑edited images were being used to defame him.
With Tej Pratap formally sidelined, the RJD faces its first major internal rift since Lalu Prasad Yadav returned to active politics earlier this year. Party insiders say a formal notice of expulsion will be issued to the state election commission within the coming days.
