In an unusual development amid Karnataka’s intensified food safety inspections, officials found multiple violations at a canteen operating inside Arogya Soudha, the headquarters of the state Health Department in Bengaluru.
The findings come as the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has stepped up inspections of hotels, restaurants, canteens and other food establishments across Bengaluru. The wider enforcement drive is aimed at checking compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
The department also conducted a special inspection drive at three Indira Canteen kitchens in Bengaluru Urban district on Tuesday. The establishments inspected were located in Gottigere, Lingarajapuram and Singasandra.
The inspections are part of a larger food safety enforcement campaign covering Bengaluru Urban district and the Greater Bengaluru area.
The findings at the Health Department’s own canteen have drawn attention because the establishment operates within the department’s headquarters, which oversees public health and food safety enforcement in the state. However, the reported violations remain subject to the applicable regulatory process and any further action by authorities.
