Journalist killed in UP's Sitapur: Bike hit, then shot three times on highway

A local journalist and RTI activist was shot dead on the Lucknow-Delhi National Highway in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur on Saturday. The victim, Raghavendra Bajpai, was a local correspondent of a Hindi Daily in Uttar Pradesh.

Reportedly, the incident happened when the assailants first rammed into his bike and then shot him three times. It was first seen as an accident but was soon turned into a murder case after doctors at a district hospital discovered three bullet wounds on his body.

The 35-year-old journalist had left his home on Saturday afternoon after receiving a phone call. Shortly after, at around 3:15 pm, he was killed on the highway.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the murder. No FIR has been filed yet. Authorities are awaiting a formal complaint from the victim's family before registering a case.

According to the police, “Four teams have been formed to arrest the accused. Police teams from Maholi, Imaliya, and Kotwali, along with the surveillance and SOG teams, have been deployed to investigate and identify the accused.”
